About Us
| This small, select family kennel has been involved with Irish Setters for over 30 years.
The original Irish Setters owned by my mother and father were mainly of Wendover/Timadon lines. They had been purchased from the late Walter Thompson of the Moirabank affix. The early enthusiasts from this kennel mainly showed at Open Shows within Northern Ireland. Eventually my father's career
meant that dog shows had to take a back seat for a number of years and it was only in 1989 when I purchased my first house, that the breed I had loved and treasured as a child came back into my life. |

I recall the day I went shopping to buy a new settee for this my very first house. After hours of looking I came home with the best of all - a beautiful 5 month old Irish Setter bitch! “Guinness”, as she became known, was never a show dog but is solely responsible for getting the dog show bug going
again. |
| Within 18 months I had purchased another Irish Setter. This time a male of total Lurgavon breeding, he was Bart Man of Gwendariff.
He won 3 Best in Show awards at Open Show level and certainly contributed greatly in my quest to have a successful Irish Setter kennel. |

In 1990 we registered our affix
and in 1991 I purchased the first Whippet the kennel was to have. Ch & Irish Ch Collooney Silver Fox was to make a great impact on the breed in Ireland. This fabulous dog is now responsible for the continuing success of Gwendariff Whippets.
Gwendariff Irish Setters are based in Lurgan, Co Armagh, although most our puppies are homed from our sister kennel in Somerset, England. We pride ourselves in quality not quantity. We strive to put the best in the ring and often pick of litter is placed with other show homes. In order to give
sufficient attention to all who live at Gwendariff we try only to keep a maximum of eight Irish Setters.
Key requirements for us are exercise and mental stimulation, always encouraging play and plenty of fun. We believe this builds happiness and develops personalities – all helping to create good social skills and above all ….. showmanship.
Please feel free to Contact Us for advice on the Irish Setter. |
