GB & Irish Sh Ch Gwendariff Pop My Cork
Lucy
Date of Birth: 1st April 2001
Pop My Cork !!
How appropriate. When choosing this name we never imagined how much it would suit her. Lucy is … bubbly, fizzy, overflowing, effervescent, beautiful and most importantly Top Class!
Lucy was a slow starter in the show ring but once she got going there was no stopping her. Lucy’s accolades started to pour in soon after her first litter.
- UK and Irish Show Champion titles
- Top Irish Setter Bitch 2005 and Joint Top Irish Setter (ISBC) also that year
- Best in Show at the prestigious Setter and Pointer Club Championship Show
- Bitch CC at Crufts 2006
Lucy has now also produced her first Champion and another CC winner from her very first litter. Not bad for a slow starter!
Lucy attended few shows as a youngster although most often winning when she did attend. In December 2003 Lucy had a litter of 11 by Shenanagin What Next. Puppy bitch Gwendariff Ms. Dynamite stayed with us and best Puppy dog Gwendariff Simply Red moved into Kingfisher Cottage with Rachel Shaw-Rainey
and Tony Rainey of Starchelle Irish Setters.
Lucy blossomed following her litter and had no trouble in gaining her Irish title in less than three months.
Lucy and her brother Harvey were campaigned together in Ireland that year, achieving many doubles along the way to gaining their respective titles.

Birmingham appears to be a lucky place for Lucy and Gwendariff Irish Setters as she gained her first and third CCs at Birmingham, doing the double with her brother on the day she gained her title. Perhaps I’m superstitious or is it just a coincidence that in 2006 Lucy took the CC at Crufts
and in 2004 Harvey her brother took the CC and Best of Breed and yes you’ve guessed right – it was held at the NEC in Birmingham!
2005 successes continued just six days after the Birmingham double. This brother and sister team did the double again at Richmond – now taking their place in Irish Setter breed history. |
A further two CCs followed – the last of which was at Setter and Pointer were she took Best of Breed and went all the way to Best in Show.
Lucy finished the year with 6 CC’s, 1 RCC, Best in Show at Setter and Pointer, and Reserve Best in Show at Irish Setter Club of Wales making her Top Irish Setter Bitch in the breed for that year and Joint Top Irish Setter in the Breeders Club competition.
Still on form and 13 CCs later this fabulous moving bitch is a truly unique character. She is as typical as the standard requires for temperament- demonstratively affection; this totally describes our Lucy.
| When Lucy’s around there is always a celebration
– any excuse to Pop a Cork!!
Message from Lucy
– “I love this winning – Cheers!!!”
